Trevor Jones Richmond Spiders Recruit

Charles City football star Trevor Jones signed a national letter of intent with the University of Richmond today, the first day of National Signing Day for high school athletes who are going to play sports at the College level.  He was accompanied by many members of his family, members of the school board, his football coaches and other members of the school faculty.  Trevor’s parents were glowing with pride as he signed to play football on a scholarship that will provide a full ride.  He will join a solid Richmond Spiders football program where he is projected to play wide receiver.

Jones is a multi sport standout player in football, basketball and track & field at Charles City County High School.  In just his senior year, he amassed over 700 yards passing, over 500 yards rushing and over 500 yards receiving in just 11 games.  Jones played in nearly every down on both sides of the ball, including special teams where he was the team’s punter and a kick returner.  In addition, Jones scored 28 touchdowns in his senior season which included 12 passing touchdowns, 9 rushing touchdowns, 5 receiving touchdowns, 1 interception return for a touchdown and a punt return for a TD in only eleven games.  Jones also scored over 25 point after conversions by an additional assortment of runs, catches and throws.  Jones was a crucial part of the defense where he registered 60 tackles.

Jones’ breakaway speed, toughness and good decision making ability caught the eye of various colleges from around Virginia and Maryland, but Jones ultimately decided to stay close to home and join a very respected private school at the University of Richmond.  The Richmond Spiders won the NCAA Division I National Football Championship in 2008 and currently have several former players that are now playing in the NFL, including Eric Ward, Tim Hightower and Paris Lenon.  The Spiders also picked up several players from other small schools in Region A such as Franklin’s Justin Grant and West Point’s Aaron Roane.
