Charles City Panthers lose to Northumberland Indians – Final Score 20 to 32

The Charles City County Panthers Varsity Football team went on the road to Heathsville, VA to face the Northumberland Indians but came away with a 20 to 32 loss in a game that was played during heavy rains.  This is the second time the panthers have traveled to the Northern Neck area this season to face opponents while there was a heavy down pour of rain.

The Northumberland Indians got on the board on the first play of the game after Alex Hall took the opening kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown.  After the failed conversion, the Indians were up 6-0.

The Panthers struck back on the opening drive with Avery Jones hooking up with Jovan Howard on a touchdown pass.  The panthers also failed on the conversion and the score was knotted up at 8 apiece.

The Indians would answer back with a Kyle Elmore touchdown run.  The Indians were up 13 to 7 after the conversion.

The Indians would add another touchdown on a QB keeper run by Chris Waller that widen the Indian lead.

The Panthers would get back on the board after Jones connected on a long pass to Banks which put them inside the zone.  Jones would follow that play with a sixteen yard touchdown pass to Dominique Williams.  The conversion made it 20-14.

The Indians would threaten to score just before the half, but was stopped after Cruz Adkins came up with a big sack.

Northumberland would get the ball back in the 3rd quarter and Hall took the first offensive distance to the goal line when he was stripped by Avery Jones.  The ball landed in the end zone and was recovered by Hall’s team mate Jaelen Conway for a score.

Later, Chris Waller would add another touchdown after a long run to put the Indians up 32 to 14.

Terrance Banks answered the kickoff with an 88 yard return for the score.  This put the score at 32-20 which is where it would stay at the end of regulation time.

The Panthers were led by Avery Jones who had 189 yards passing with two touchdowns.  Terrance Banks had 61 yards receiving to go along with 112 return yards and one touchdown.  Dominique Williams had 65 yards receiving for one TD and a 2 point conversion catch.  Williams also spearheaded the defense with 9 tackles and one sack.  Jaelen Williams also had 9 tackles.  Cruz Adkins had 8 tackles along with a sack.

Northumberland’s defense was all over the Panther running game.  Eight different panthers had rushing attempts totaling a negative 42 yards for the game.

Alex Hall led Northumberland with 130 yards rushing with two touchdowns.  Indian QB Chris Waller had 74 yards passing and one touchdown.
