Charles City Panthers beat Middlesex Chargers – Final score 70 to 7

The panthers won their second game in a row with a dominating performance over the Middlesex Chargers on September 23, 2011.  The final score was 70 to 7.  The panthers scored early and often in this game.

Panther QB Avery Jones was the first to get on the board with a long touchdown run where he went touched into the end zone.  Middlesex looked like the would contend early in the game when Charger quarterback Kyle Lawson connected on a 38 bomb to Malik Henderson where he was knocked out of bounds at the 8 yard line.  The Chargers were not able to come away with any points as the Panther defense stopped them on all four downs.  On the next panther drive, Jones would show up the Charger bomb play with one of his own.  Jones connected with Dominique Williams for a 70 touchdown pass play.

After the Panthers stopped the Chargers again, Jones would lead another drive that ended on touchdown pass to Terrance Banks.  The panthers were up 18-0 at this point.

Charger player L.J. King got Middlesex in good field position after a nice kickoff return, but the Chargers would turn the ball over on a pass that would be picked off by Banks.

After Jones made a spectacular run that put the Panthers in much better field position, running back Justin Brown made a nice run of his own to the end zone for another panther score.

The chargers would stall out on their next drive, but a nice fake punt play to L. J. King put them back in good field position.  However this drive would end abruptly when panther Jovan Howard would snag an interception.  Another good pass from Jones to Williams put the panthers back in the red zone.  On the following play, Jones would run to the left side for another run to the end zone without being touched.

The Chargers would finally get on the board when Lawson connected with J.D. Diggs on a 41 yard touchdown catch and run.

The next drive for the Panthers would be more of the same.  Jones connected on a long pass to Williams, which was followed by Justin Brown touchdown run.  The panthers got the ball back after a short drive by the Chargers and panther Eric Shields would run in for another touchdown.

The Chargers were driving again when Lawson would throw another interception.  This time, panther Da’qauan Burton would get his first of two interceptions.  Just before half, Jones would get the ball in his hands one more time as time expired.  Jones rolled around to his left side and connected with Williams for another TD.

The score was 56 to 7 at halftime.

The Panthers would continue to add to the score in the 3rd quarter when Terrance Banks returned a punt 56 yards for another score.

Justin Brown finished the scoring for the Panthers with a 65 yard touchdown run in the 3rd quarter.

The panthers pulled their starters, but they briefly re-entered the game in the 4th quarter when the Chargers continued to blitz the second team.

Avery Jones led the Panthers with over 350 all purpose yards, including 3 passing touchdowns and 2 rushing touchdowns.  Justin Brown had 158 yards rushing to go along with 3 touchdowns. Dominique Williams had 155 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

The panther defense had four interceptions, two by Da’quaun Burton and one apiece by Jovan Howard and Terrance Banks.  Bryan Johnson had one sack.  Jaelen Williams led the team in tackles with 6, followed by Tesean Greene and Eric Shields with 5 apiece.
